POTATO DEPENDENCE. IMPORT INCREASED BY 37%

Prices for the import of fruits and vegetables in Russia. In the May / April 2021 pair, in terms of imports, the average actual prices grew for potatoes (+ 6.8%) and citrus fruits (+ 10.1%). Tomatoes were still falling in price, by 6.2%. Banana prices are steadily balancing near zero: -minus 0.7%.

With regard to May 2020, prices for imported vegetables and fruits decreased in May 2021, except for potatoes and bananas: + 2% and + 0.7%, respectively. Imported tomatoes dropped in price by 0.3%, while citrus fruits - by 13.3%.

For foreign potatoes, the average actual price per tonne in May 2021 amounted to USD 415.4 against USD 382.0 in April. Importers imported 131 thousand tons, which is 28.2% more than in April. By May 2020, the growth was 37.7%.

Tomato import in May cost $ 1,078.3 / t against $ 1,144.3 in April.

Prices for bananas, including plantains (fresh and dried) remained practically at the level of the previous year and amounted to $ 740.5 / ton against 745.5 in April.

Imported citruses were imported to Russia in May for $ 828.6 / t against $ 752.1 in April. @agrorisk
